Windows 10 End of Support: Are You Prepared?
Microsoft will officially end support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. If your rugged laptops and tablets are still running Windows 10 after this date, you're exposing your organization to serious risks: security vulnerabilities, compliance issues, and potential hardware/software failures.
Rugged Depot is here to help you navigate this transition.
What End of Support Means for You
When Microsoft ends support for Windows 10, your devices will no longer receive:
- Security updates
- Bug fixes or patches
- Assisted support
That puts your operations at risk:
- Security Threats: Devices become easy targets for cyberattacks.
- Compliance Violations: Unsupported OS environments can breach HIPAA, PCI DSS, and other frameworks.
- Compatibility Problems: New software or accessories may not work with outdated systems.
Are Your Computers Compatible with Windows 11?
Windows 11 has strict hardware requirements:
Component | Minimum Required Specs | Recommended Specs |
---|---|---|
CPU | 1 GHz or faster with 2+ cores on a compatible 64-bit processor or SoC (must be on Microsoft's approved list) | Intel Core i5 (8th Gen or newer), AMD Ryzen 5 (3rd Gen or newer) |
RAM | 4 GB | 16 GB |
Storage | 64 GB or larger storage device | 256 GB SSD or larger (NVMe preferred) |
Security | UEFI with Secure Boot & TPM 2.0 | TPM 2.0, Secure Boot enabled, and device encryption |
Many devices don't meet these standards and must be replaced.
Devices not compatible with Windows 11:
- Panasonic: CF-19, CF-20, CF-30, CF-31, CF-33 MK1, CF-53, CF-54, CF-C2, FZ-G1, FZ-M1
- Getac: F110 G4 and below, B300 G6 and below, S410 G1, V110 G4 and below, V100 (all generations), S400 (all generations)

Why You Should Act Now
Delaying your transition can lead to:
- Q4 hardware backorders
- Rising prices as demand surges
- Downtime, security gaps, and compliance failures
Upgrading now ensures full continuity well before the October 2025 deadline.
Can't Upgrade Yet? Consider ESUs (Extended Security Updates)
If hardware upgrades aren't immediately possible, Microsoft offers Extended Security Updates for Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise users.
Key facts:
- Pricing: $30/device for first year (October 15, 2025 – October 15, 2026)
- No multi-year ESU available for end users after October 15, 2026
- Only includes security updates, not features or performance improvements
- Most small teams on Windows 10 Pro will need Microsoft 365 E3 or E5 subscription to access
- Program enrollment available closer to end of support in 2025
Special cases:
- Windows 365 customers get ESUs at no additional cost for Windows 10 devices that connect to Cloud PCs running Windows 11
- Azure Virtual Desktop Windows 10 instances also receive ESUs at no additional charge
Rugged Depot does not sell ESUs. We recommend contacting Microsoft or your IT provider directly if you must pursue this option.
